What is Pose Estimation?
Pose estimation locates the keypoints that define an articulated structure — human joints, hand landmarks, animal skeletons — or recovers the full 6-DoF position and orientation of a rigid object. It converts pixels into geometry that downstream systems can reason about.

What is the difference between 2D pose, 3D pose and 6-DoF pose?
2D pose gives keypoints in the image plane. 3D pose lifts them into space, usually with depth ambiguity to resolve. 6-DoF pose gives the full position and orientation of a rigid object, and is the version robotics and AR usually need.
Which approach is standard for human pose?
Top-down pipelines — detect a person, then estimate keypoints within the crop — give the best accuracy. Bottom-up methods such as OpenPose scale better with crowd size. MediaPipe and RTMPose are common choices where on-device speed matters.
