Is OpenCV still relevant given deep learning?
Very much so. Deep learning replaced some classical algorithms but not the surrounding infrastructure — camera calibration, geometric transforms, colour conversion, video decoding and contour analysis are all still OpenCV, and its DNN module also runs inference directly.
Should I learn the C++ or Python API?
Python for prototyping and research, C++ for production and embedded work. Many roles expect both, and C++ OpenCV in particular is a strong signal for machine vision and robotics positions where latency matters.
How often does OpenCV appear in job requirements?
It is among the most frequently listed tools in computer vision job descriptions, often alongside PyTorch. For machine vision and embedded roles it is usually a hard requirement rather than a nice-to-have.
