What is Swift?
Swift is Apple’s language and the route to computer vision on iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS. Combined with the Vision framework, Core ML and ARKit, it covers on-device recognition, tracking and augmented reality without any server involvement.
Where Swift is used
Consumer applications with on-device vision features, AR experiences built on ARKit and visionOS, fitness and movement analysis apps, and privacy-sensitive imaging where data must stay on the device.
Roles that ask for Swift
- iOS Engineer, ML
- Mobile AI Engineer
- AR/VR Engineer
- Computer Vision Engineer
- Apple Platforms Engineer

Swift jobs — common questions
What can iOS do without a custom model?
A great deal. The Vision framework provides face and landmark detection, text recognition, body and hand pose, barcode reading, object tracking and image classification out of the box — enough for many products with no training required.
How do custom models fit in?
Train in PyTorch or TensorFlow, convert with coremltools, then run through Core ML — often via Vision for preprocessing. Understanding both the training and the conversion side makes these roles distinctive.
Is visionOS creating new demand?
It has expanded the spatial computing market, and roles combining Swift with 3D vision, hand tracking and scene understanding have grown accordingly. It remains a specialised segment tied to Apple’s platform.
