Because bracketed exposures are captured at different times, anything moving appears in different places across them. Alignment and ghost removal typically consume more engineering effort than the radiance merge itself.
What is the difference between tone mapping and HDR capture?
Capture recovers the true radiance range of the scene. Tone mapping compresses that range into something a standard display can show while preserving local contrast — a perceptual problem with no single correct answer.
Does HDR matter beyond photography?
Considerably, in automotive. Sensors with 120 dB or more of dynamic range and LED flicker mitigation are safety-relevant, and how HDR is handled before perception directly affects detection reliability.
