Because the ecosystem grew there. Camera vendor SDKs, frame grabber drivers, motion controllers and established machine vision packages target Windows first, and industrial customers standardised around it decades ago.
What does this mean for the work?
More GUI application development than typical CV roles, integration with vendor SDKs and hardware, and deployment concerns around installers, driver signing and supporting long-lived customer installations.
Does Windows experience limit a CV career?
It channels it toward industrial and medical work rather than research or web-scale ML. That is a large, stable and reasonably paid market, but it is a different track from cloud-native machine learning.
